Analyzing the Impact of Intensive Agriculture on Soil Quality: A Systematic Review and Global Meta-Analysis of Quality Indexes

As the global population grows, demand for food increases and puts a strain on production systems agricultural productivity, causing soil degradation. Soil quality indexes (SQIs) have been developed to maintain improve quality. However, due variety of soils SQIs, analyzing comparing results has historically difficult. Therefore, in this study, we carried out systematic review with meta-analysis focused studies under intensive agriculture using unified weighted additive SQI methodology (SQIU). Sixty-five observations were analyzed. Chemical indicators most prevalent SQIUs, followed by physical biological indicators. Conventional management had negative effects (–7.55%). From factors analyzed, minimum database significant effect results, but not number that made up SQIU. The SQIU chemical–biological (CB) presented negatively overestimated measurements (–32.53%), exaggerating degradation analyzed soils. correlated strongly size cation exchange capacity (CEC) microbial biomass carbon (MBC). is feasible tool interpret around world, as it makes possible obtain simple generalized view conditions.
